What can we learn from George W. Bush at the Museum and Library?

Today is the birthday

of

George W. Bush

He is the oldest of 5 children born to George Herbert Walker Bush and Barbara Pierce, George, Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Dorothy (Doro) and a younger sister, Robin who died from leukemia at 3 years old.

George met Laura Welch, a teacher and librarian at a barbecue. After 3 months of dating, he asked her to marry.

He is the father of fraternal twins, Jenna and Barbara.

George the 43rd President of the United States, is the son
of the 41st President of the United States.
He wrote a book about his father titled
A Portrait of My Father, released in 2014.

He is a avid baseball fan. President Bush is the first former Little League Player and owner of a Professional Baseball Team to become President of the United States. Who knew that experience would play such a big part in his leadership after 911. The New York Yankees made it to the World Series, in 2011. President Bush threw out the first pitch in Game 3. Tension and security were high in New York, all over the United States but New York was hit the hardest, the President threw a perfect strike. Watch a video excerpt from  of the moments before and his interaction with Jeter and read Billy Crystal's take http://abcnews.go.com/US/fullpage/baseball-yankees-helped-york-heal-post-911-president-33663881 What big boots to fill. ESPN 30 for 30 "First Pitch". "Don't bounce it or they will boo you."

I got to feel what it was like to have the privilege to sit behind the desk in an exact recreation of the Oval Office at his Museum in Dallas. It takes time walking through the museum and the Presidency to discover, it is a lot more than pushing buttons.

E Pluribus Unum

Collaborations between parties (it is possible)

Clinton Bush Haiti Fund Bill Clinton and George Bush joined forces at the request of President Obama to raise contributions for relief and recovery efforts following the 2010 Haiti earthquake earlier that month.

I have also heard him interviewed about his chumminess with Michele Obama, his reply, I like her, we just took to each other.

Journey's with George, the documentary by Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Democratic Minority Leader of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi is available on YouTube.

On May 2, 2011, President Obama called Bush, who was at a restaurant with his wife, to inform him that Osama bin Laden had been killed.

The Bushes joined the Obamas in New York City to mark the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. At the Ground Zero memorial, Bush read a letter that President Abraham Lincoln wrote to a widow who lost five sons during the Civil War.

In July 2013, Laura Bush and Michele Obama appeared together in Africa at the First Ladies Summit.

In March 2015,  Laura Bush and Michele Obama were named as co-chairs of the Find Your Park campaign.

Bush Sr. 41st President of the United States George H. W. Bush appeared in television ads with former 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton to encourage donations and aid to the victims of Hurricane Katrina and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

George W. Bush could not have picked a more supportive partner. He and Laura's relationship is one to admire. She attributes their great success to the fact, he likes to talk and she likes to listen.

Today July 6, 2017 with the help of one of America's finest, we salute former President George W. Bush on his 71st birthday.

The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum is located in downtown Dallas on the campus of SMU, Southern Methodist University. Upon entering the building you are greeted in a most cordial and welcoming way. maybe it is a Texas thing, y'all.

In February 2017, Bush released a book of his own portraits of veterans called Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief's Tribute to America's Warriors.

Some of those portraits are on display at the Bush Center in Dallas through September.

It's easy to sit in judgement of any man's or woman's decision but until you have sat behind the desk and are the focal point of the room when someone says, "What should we do Mr. President?" then and only then with all the facts before you would you know what you would do.

You are offered a chance to sit in the situation room, be presented with the facts and have an opportunity to cast your vote. I was adamant and sure about my decision on the financial crisis. Things did not swing my way nor go the way i wanted but I had to respect the decision that it was better overall for the country.

There is a lot more to the man and the Presidency to discover at his library.

I

I would be remiss if I did not mention his mother and her influence on his life, she is in the picture.
