August 5 thru 7 weekend events

2016 State Sales Tax Holidays are coming up for some states. Sigh, Pennsylvania is not one of them. Check for your state.

August 5 Today is Read Where You Are Day a Department of Education sponsored event. To participate take a picture of yourself reading and post online with #ReadWhereYouAre.

August 5 The 2016 Summer Olympics open in Rio. 

August 6 Open House at Square Tavern and Paper Mill House in Newtown Square on Saturdays in August, Square Tavern is located at the corner of Rt. 252 and Goshen Rd. Paper Mill is located on the corner of Paper Mill Rd. and St. David's Rd. Open 1 - 4 p.m. Check historicnewtownsquare.org for any changes or updates.

August 6 The Black Star Film Festival Youth Screening Shorts this year will feature a film by local MyFi (Media Youth Film Initiative) "Painkiller". MyFi is a film production class for high school students located in Media, PA.  The Youth series films will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Pearlstein Gallery located at 3401 Filbert street in Philadelphia.

August 6 Kayak on the Schuylkill Tours 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.  

August 6 Secrets of the Schuylkill Boat Tour 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. 

August 6 Craft Beer and Crab Festival at Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May, N.J.

August 7 ACANA African Fest at Penn's Landing on the Delaware Waterfront in Philadelphia 2 p.m. - 8 p.m.

August 7 Concert By Candlelight at Laurel Hill Mansion in East Fairmount Park "La Fiocco" renaissance instruments. Concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.  Tickets can be purchased at www.laurelhillmansion.by using Pay Pal, by calling 215-643-7923 or emailing bfrankl433@comcast.net.

August 7 National Lighthouse Day at Cape May Lighthouse 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.

August 7 2nd Street Festival in Philadelphia Noon to 10 p.m.
