October 14 Fossil Day

Today is National Fossil Day

Phacops rana is the official state fossil of Pennsylvania. Here is a link to a website that describes where one might find such a fossil.

A shell a leaf or a bone is considered a body fossil.

A footprint is a trace fossil.



Relative dating can tell which fossil is older by comparison and absolute dating can determine just how long ago an organism lived.
