September is National Preparedness Month

September 30 is National Preparethon Day! I am giving you a head start. Get Ready, Set, Prepare!

Are you signed up to the county emergency alert system? You can go to the Delaware County, PA government website and read about the alert system and choose which events you would like to be informed about and how you wish to be contacted. This is also a link to register.

Delaware County Council has a very good website listing recommendations on how to prepare.

The American Red Cross has "readiness packs" for purchase and also other items you may consider having on hand.

How to prepare and protect your family in a hurricane from the cdc website.

Recommendations for keeping your kit up to date at the ready.gov website.

Look to "Planning ahead can help keep you and your family safe",  if there’s an emergency, like a natural or man-made disaster at  healthfinder.gov

Make an emergency supply kit. Gather supplies like water, medicines, and blankets. You won’t have time to search or shop for these supplies during an emergency.

Decide on an emergency contact, preferably someone outside of the catastrophic event area. Make sure all family members have this contact information in the event you are separated.

Learn what you need to do in the event of all emergency type events and be prepared.

For me these are the basics to check, battery supply, water supply, important papers all in one place and accessible to grab and go. I need to update my contact information and to make sure every one in the family has it.
