May 1 First Friday Movie Night Under the Stars and Stripes 5:30 p.m. join the Betsy Ross House for the return of the First Friday favorite, Movie Night Under the Stars and Stripes! May through October, kick back, relax, and enjoy a selection of cult horror classics from the 1950s and 60s in the historic courtyard. Be sure to arrive early for special after hours tours of the House starting at 5 pm. May 1st movie Bride of the Monster BUY TICKET.  Admission is $5 and includes a tour of the Betsy Ross House and movie screening.

May 1 Providence Garden Club of PA Plant Sale from 1 to 3 p.m .and Saturday, May 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Williamson Free School of Mechanical Trades located at 106 South New Middletown Road (Rte 352) in Middletown.

May 2 Chester Charter School for the Arts' Pop Up Party for the Entire Family, Art Exhibit and Sale at the McCabe Library, Swarthmore College 5:30- 7:30 p.m.




May 2 Delaware County Suicide Prevention and Task Force 10th Annual 5K Walk and Run at Ridley Creek State Park. Meet at Pavilion #11. Registration begins at 8 a.m.

May 2 Walk for the Wounded at Rose Tree Park in Upper Providence will raise funds for Operation First Response. The 5K run begins at 10 a.m. on site registration 9 a.m. a 2 mile walk is also planned at 10 a.m.

May 2 Colonial Plantation Sheep Shearing and Textile Event 1:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., last entry at 4 p.m. . Admission is $10.00 for adults and $8.00 for children ages 4 to 12. Children under age 4 are free.

May 2 Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs 6:34 p.m. and they're off. For all you stay at home racy people, I have found a recipe for the perfect mint julep on foodnetwork.com.  It takes 24 hours so plan ahead.  You will have plenty of time in-between to pick your pony.

May 2 Kentucky Derby Party at the Paramour Restaurant, Wayne Hotel, 139 E. Lancaster Ave, in Wayne, PA . Mint Julep, anyone? 4-6:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person and benefit the Radnor Historical Society.

May 2 Early Birding with PHL BirdPhilly 7:00 a.m, Wissahickon Valley Park. Early May in the Wissahickon is excellent for early arriving warblers like Louisiana waterthrush, as well as woodthrush and courting wood ducks. We will meet at Valley Green and walk along Forbidden Drive, stopping at bridges to search for waterthrush.Meeting Location: Valley Green parking lot. Valley Green Road, Philadelphia, PA 19128.

May 2  Birding by Ear Workshop at Wissahickon Environmental Center (same day as Wissahickon Valley)1:00 p.m.  After a break for lunch, a birding by ear workshop will be held at the Wissahickon Environmental Center (Tree House). Meeting Location: 300 W. Northwestern Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118.

The Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival takes over six blocks of Walnut Street (between Broad and 19th Streets) for the day to showcase the neighborhood’s fantastic food, fashion, arts and entertainment.
