Top 10 Upcoming Historic Holiday House and Church Tours This Week

December 9 Holidays at Hagley - Twilight Tours of Eleutherian Mills Residence -On Tuesday evenings in December beginning December 9, the du Pont family residence will stay open into the evening and invite guests to see the splendor of the holiday display by the glow of candles and twilight. Small groups will be guided through the house and get an intimate glimpse of the holiday season as the du Ponts would have experienced it after a day of shopping, gift-making, calling, and merry-making. Tours will begin at the Visitor Center followed by a ride through the powder yards to the residence. Reservations requested, call (302) 658-2400, ext. 261. Tours begin at 5, 5:30, and 6 p.m. Admission is $10 for non-members and free for members. The Hagley Store will be open until 8 p.m., offering a unique selection of holiday gifts.

December 12 and 13 A Fairmount Christmas Carol. Board a bus from the Art Museum with saucy characters from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol as your guides, and experience a playful version of Christmas Past, Present, and Future at three of the historic Park Houses. Tours depart every 30 minutes. Tickets: $42, $34 for Philadelphia Museum of Art Members.

December 13 Victorian Christmas Carol Church Tours 1 - 5 p.m. Come and tour five Collingdale churches and step back in ti.me as we share our favorite carols and history with you. A walking tour of the churches will be conducted to coincide with the history of the borough. Come and find out what the connection is with Christmas and Collingdale.  The tours will start at St. Joseph's Church in Collingdale and end at the Church of the Nazarene with a Christmas musical celebration,  Five Collingdale Churches are involved... St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church will be open from 1 to 2 p.m. (Special Music- Jesu, Joy of A Man's Desiring and O Holy Night French Horn solo) Golden Gate Christian Assembly Church-Carol Sing....2 to 2:30 p.m. Grace Reformed Episcopal Church- Special music by choir 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. First Baptist Church of Collingdale- Special music "Mary, Did You Know" 3:15 to 4 p.m. Collingdale First Church of the Nazarene- Presentation- "Christmas Candle" 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will a walking tour and a self directed tour for those who want to visit the churches on their own. December 13 Media Historical Society  2014 Holiday House Tour 1 - 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 at Earth and State, Quincy’s Marquet, and Media Florist, all on State Street in Media.

December 13, The Spirit of Christmas  This town-wide celebration, sponsored by the New Castle Presbyterian Church, presents private homes and churches decorated for the season, and musical events throughout the day. Programs for the day are available at the NC Presbyterian Church, 25 E. 2nd Street. 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. - Rain or Shine. December 13 The Amstel House and Dutch Houses in New Castle will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to visitors during The Spirit of Christmas .

December 13 Colonial Plantation "Christmas on the Farm" Father Christmas, Wassailing and puppet show (2:30 p.m.) along with textile, hearth cooking, candle making, woodworking, and long rifle demonstrations. 11- 6 p.m. last entry 5:30 p.m. Tickets Adults $10.00 and children (4 to12) $8.00

December 13  A Sugartown Christmas at Historic Sugartown located at 690 Sugartown Road, at the corners of Spring & Boot Roads in Malvern.  11 a.m. - 4 p.m. Admission: $5/Adults, $4/Seniors (60+ yrs), $3/Children (3 – 17 yrs). Children ages 2 and younger admitted free.

December 14 The Friends of the Thomas Leiper House in Nether Providence Township cordially invite you to a Colonial Christmas Open House and the celebration of the birthday of Thomas Leiper at his 1785 country home, 521 Avondale Road, Wallingford, PA from 1 - 6 p.m.

Holiday Weekends at the Grange Estate December 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 January 3, 4, 10, 11 Admission for tours during December and January
$1 for children up to 12 years of age and $5 for adults. Tours 1 - 4 p.m.
The Grange is located at 143 Myrtle Avenue in Havertown, PA.
