Otis Williams Interview

Eddie Kendricks 1961-1971 died 1992 of lung cancer
Elbridge Bryant 1961-1963 died 1975 of cirrhosis of the liver.
Melvin Franklin 1961-1995 best friends with Otis Williams for 30 years, he and Williams are the only members who never quit. In the late 1960s, Franklin was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, the symptoms of which he combated with cortisone so that he could continue performing. The constant use of cortisone left his immune system open to other infections and health problems; as a result Franklin developed diabetes in the early 1980s and later contracted necrotizing fasciitis, flesh-eating disease. In 1978 he was shot in the hand and in the leg while trying to stop a man from stealing his car in Los Angeles. On February 23, 1995, after a number of seizures, he fell into a coma and remained unconscious until death.
Paul Williams 1961-1971 died 1973 on the ground near his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
David Ruffin 1964-1968 rejoined the group 1982. Ruffin collapsed on June 1, 1991 in a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania crack house after sharing ten vials with a friend in under half an hour. Although the cause of death was ruled an accidental overdose of cocaine, Ruffin's family and friends suspected foul play, claiming that a money belt containing the proceeds from the tour ($40,000) was missing from his body.

The Temptations still perform with Williams at the helm. Vver the years there have been 21 different members.
